Brooklyn’s Daisy the Great are back today with the final preview of their forthcoming album The Rubber Teeth Talk, due out June 27 via S-Curve Records. The record’s radiant opening track, “Dog” features some of the band’s tightest and most immediate songwriting to date. “I wrote Dog while on a long walk through New York City on a crummy day,” shares Kelley Dugan, “I saw a Winnie the Pooh stuffed animal face down in a murky puddle on the curb in the West Village and I thought, there I am. It was like a little funny gift from the streets of NY that validated my disillusionment with adulthood that day and made me smile.”

For the new record, Mina Walker and Kelley Dugan worked with Grammy award-winning producer Catherine Marks (boygenius, St. Vincent, Alanis Morissette) to expand their multidimensional, genre-defying sound and deepen the intricate harmonies on their hook-filled tracks. On creating the record, Catherine Marks shares, “We laughed a lot making this record but there were also many moments that made us shed a little tear. When I first heard the songs I was immediately transported into their world. I love the character and sonic identity we’ve created for each song, guided by their storytelling. This album is so undeniably them and I love it.”

The Rubber Teeth Talk arrives on the heels of Daisy the Great’s highly regarded EP Spectacle: Daisy the Great vs. Tony Visconti, an experimental, kaleidoscopic body of work created with Grammy award-winning producer Tony Visconti last fall. What can be heard across The Rubber Teeth Talk’s 11 tracks is Daisy the Great’s limitlessness and utterly infectious and transformative sound.

Citing artists you “can’t compare to anyone else,” like Fiona Apple, The Sundays, David Bowie, Dirty Projectors, and Liz Phair as inspiration, Daisy the Great have organically grown their audience by being totally inimitable. On The Rubber Teeth Talk, tight harmonies and a sharp melodic sensibility are the only rules – every song is a surprising centerpiece in its own right, a reminder that the voice in itself is an instrument.

Coming off their invigorating first headlining tour, Daisy the Great found themselves back in New York City, finally with a moment to write again. Over the past two years of their lives, the two had constantly collected seeds of songs from dreams and uncanny moments, and were so excited to start to live within this new landscape they had been quietly imagining. As they began to build these worlds together, the duo found room for introspection, which grounds Daisy the Great’s sharp and playful new album: The Rubber Teeth Talk. In their transitional stage, Walker and Dugan paid special attention to the skewed logic of dreams, which bring unconscious desires to light. These revelations can be both prosaic and profound, delivered with wit.

Daisy the Great describes their songwriting process as diaristic, reflecting their lives moment to moment, touching on both “big and small things.” To make the album, they wrote together daily, then shared the songs with bandmates Nardo Ochoa and Matti Dunietz who helped expand them into fully fleshed-out demos. Songs fell into place as the friends shared the details of their lives with one another, and on The Rubber Teeth Talk, the mundane experiences of the day-to-day share space with the momentous. Daisy the Great dreamed of working with award-winning producer Catherine Marks. Marks came to New York for preproduction and the band worked out songs in Dunietz’s basement studio, then they decamped to Studio G in Brooklyn in what they describe as a “homegrown” process. “The whole band came every day, even if they weren’t recording. It felt like such a family. We joked, bickered, and jammed, taking time to find really cool sounds as we knew we wanted the record to be super lush and full of little pockets – different worlds.” Though the lyrics on this album emerge from Dugan and Walker’s individual experiences, they relate to one another intimately, as friends and artists. “A lot of the album is about self-perception, comparison, and insecurity in some way. There’s also a thread about fear and trusting yourself that things will be okay. Trusting that it’s an adventure, or a journey, and finding a way to stick around through the messiness.”

NYC indie duo Daisy the Great – comprised of Mina Walker and Kelley Dugan – will return this Summer with their anticipated new album The Rubber Teeth Talk, out June 27 on S-Curve Records. Produced by Grammy award-winning producer Catherine Marks (boygenius, St. Vincent, Alanis Morissette), the new record sees the Brooklyn duo expand on their multidimensional sound with intricate harmonies and hook-filled tracks. They recently shared the album’s spunky lead single “Ballerina” and today they’re back with another tease of the album, showing off a softer side with “Mary’s At The Carnival.”

Over a delicate bed of interlocking guitars and sweetly enchanting vocal layers, the band muse about love in its purest form. “‘Mary’s At The Carnival’ is about witnessing a pure and innocent love, after losing yourself in a complicated and heavy relationship,” they share. “It celebrates the ability to see the beauty around you with childlike wonder and the hope of being able to rediscover that perspective. We wrote this song with our bandmate Nardo, each of us contributing a different section. It all came together in the end in a carousel-inspired harmony stacked round.”

On creating the record, Catherine Marks adds, “We laughed a lot making this record but there were also many moments that made us shed a little tear. When I first heard the songs I was immediately transported into their world. I love the character and sonic identity we’ve created for each song, guided by their storytelling. This album is so undeniably them and I love it.”

Citing artists you “can’t compare to anyone else” like Fiona Apple, The Sundays, David Bowie, Dirty Projectors, and Liz Phair as inspiration, Daisy the Great have organically grown their audience by being totally inimitable. On The Rubber Teeth Talk, tight harmonies and a sharp melodic sensibility are the only rules – every song is a surprising centerpiece in its own right, a reminder that the voice in itself is an instrument.

The band is currently wrapping up their ‘Ballerina’ Spring Tour, which will culminate with shows in New York City at Night Club 101 and Los Angeles at Moroccan Lounge on May 21st!
On the edgy lead single “Ballerina,” Daisy the Great emerge from a childhood dream. “I wake up at 4:00 a.m. these days, I’ve got a lot on my mind/ Like what’s the point of a body if I’ll never be a ballerina!” Dugan and Walker scream at the outset, initiating a spiraling synth part that could soundtrack a nightmarish circus. Those lyrics are but one example of the big imagination on display on The Rubber Teeth Talk.

Emerging from Brooklyn’s indie scene, NYC duo Daisy the Great kick off 2025 with the announcement of their new Catherine Marks-produced (boygenius, St. Vincent, Alanis Morissette) album The Rubber Teeth Talk, which will arrive June 27th via S-Curve Records. Today, the band has shared the album’s first single, the spunky, hook-filled anthem “Ballerina” and its accompanying video, directed by Zachary Tavel.

Driven by the constant societal pressure to be perfect, Mina Walker and Kelley Dugan wrote “Ballerina” to process the smoke and mirrors around perfection in a world of social media. “Ballerina represents a childhood dream of perfection: something that is unattainable, but real enough to give yourself something to compare yourself to,” explains the band. “You look for the ballerina in the search for beauty, purpose, talent, body, and success — and prescribe it to the people you see around you and on social media, who seem to have that air of flawlessness. But the truth is they are also looking for ballerinas because we live in a society that feeds you this idea that even though you’re not perfect, someone out there is.”

Coming off their invigorating first headlining tour, the duo Daisy the Great found themselves back in New York City, finally with a moment to write again.

Dugan and Walker met as acting majors at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, and they joke that they “became friends through being business partners.” When they grew closer in their last year of college, the duo soon found themselves writing an elaborate musical for the fun of it. They’d meet up daily in the lobby of the Marlton Hotel and “running on cookies and fries,” shared songs they’d written independently bursting with stacked harmonies and uncanny melodies. The duo soon realized a single musical couldn’t contain the energy between them and decided to start a band. Over time, Daisy the Great compiled songs and released their debut album, I’m Not Getting Any Taller (2019), and alongside their college friends/collaborators, Daisy the Great taped a Tiny Desk submission video of their song “The Record Player Song.”

“The Record Player Song” blew up on TikTok, then the band released a version with fellow New York pop artists AJR that went certified gold with over 450 million streams. From there, they released their sophomore album All You Need is Time (2022), and a slew of singles and EPs, including Spectacle: Daisy the Great vs. Tony Visconti, which they wrote with the legendary producer. They’ve collaborated with Claud and Illuminati Hotties on top of touring with the Kooks, the Vaccines, and half alive, and playing at Lollapalooza and Firefly. Citing artists you “can’t compare to anyone else” like Fiona Apple, The Sundays, David Bowie, Dirty Projectors, and Liz Phair as inspiration, Daisy the Great organically grew their audience by being totally inimitable. On The Rubber Teeth Talk, tight harmonies and a sharp melodic sensibility are the only rules – every song is a surprising centerpiece in its own right, a reminder that the voice in itself is an instrument.

On the heels of their recently released EP Spectacle: Daisy the Great vs. Tony Visconti, New York City trailblazers Daisy the Great announce their Spring 2025 headline tour that will see them play across North America with stops in Montreal, Toronto, Nashville, Los Angeles and more. Tickets will go on sale this Friday, Nov 22 at 10AM ET – HERE. (See the full list of tour dates below)

Emerging from the depths of Brooklyn’s indie music scene, Daisy the Great is the utterly infectious project of Kelley Dugan and Mina Walker. The duo first met as acting majors at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts where they began co-writing a musical about a fictional band before realizing they could make it happen in real life and set out as Daisy the Great. Inspired by artists like Fiona Apple and Bowie, Daisy the Great’s imaginative and clever songwriting meets whimsy and an unmistakable rawness to bring their music to life. Following the immediate success of “The Record Player Song,” the band released their debut full-length I’m Not Getting Any Taller in 2019, followed by 2020’s quarantine-born Soft Songs EP, and their 2022 masterful sophomore album, All You Need Is Time, which has garnered 500M streams to date.

The last couple of years have seen Daisy the Great rise to new heights – collaborating with artists like illuminati hotties and Claud, playing major festivals like Lollapalooza and Firefly, and joining The Kooks and The Vaccines on their North American headline tour earlier this year.

Last month, the band released the kaleidoscopic EP Spectacle: Daisy the Great vs. Tony Visconti, which saw notable praise from Atwood Magazine, Northern Transmissions, Spinning Platters, LaunchLeft, and tons more. With sonic experimentation and stellar songwriting on full display, Daisy the Great showcased a new side of their indie prowess, marking them artists to watch in the space. 2025 is expected to be even more exciting as the band has been in the studio for the last couple of months with GRAMMY® award-winning producer Catherine Marks (boygenius, St. Vincent, Wolf Alice) working on new material.
Daisy the Great’s fourth EP, Spectacle: Daisy the Great vs. Tony Visconti, is a masterclass in sonic storytelling — a dazzling exploration of the indie innovation that has defined the duo since the release of their hit “The Record Player Song” and its certified-gold follow-up, “Record Player” with AJR. The five new tracks were co-created with Grammy-winning producer Tony Visconti (David Bowie, T. Rex), and capture the New York City duo honing in on their unique brand of genre-defying music where interlocking double lead vocals and striking harmonies give their sound an artful and kaleidoscopic twist.

“Tony Visconti is the kind of legendary producer you never think you’ll get to meet, let alone work with,” share Kelley and Mina. “We were already stunned enough just being able to meet him, but then, when we got home, we heard that after he watched our set in Berlin he wanted to work with us. Once we were all back in New York, we started going to Tony’s studio a few times a week to write and eventually we put together this EP, Spectacle: Daisy the Great vs. Tony Visconti. We hope you love the songs. They were made with playful brains and big hearts.”

The band’s vocal interplay is an ever-evolving blend of genres where vulnerable and undeniably intimate subjects pair beautifully with earworm melodies. Punchy drums welcome you on “Butterfly, Stay Dry,” a track inspired by the impermanence of the things you wish you could feel most certain about. Self-described as “our freaky harmony-soaked song” the track’s rich soundscapes and surprising instrumentation serve as an exhilarating palate cleanser. From the dissonant, harmony-rich “Fireman!” to the romantic “Pretty Painting” and the slow-burning, powerful talk-singing on “Spectacle,” the EP captures the band reaching new heights. Indeed, Spectacle: Daisy the Great vs. Tony Visconti is the most expansive release from Daisy the Great yet. The band’s limitlessness is on full display on the new EP, where genre lines know no bounds and the band’s creative fearlessness is inspiring.

Praise for Daisy The Great

“Spectacle: Daisy the Great vs. Tony Visconti is a compelling and emotive EP that delicately juggles playful melodies and writing with serious and thought-provoking topics…It is hard to find fault in the release, with the greatest problem I had being that I wanted it to never stop.” – Northern Transmissions

“Spectacle: Daisy the Great vs. Tony Visconti’ is a dynamic and dreamy 16-minute masterpiece highlighting the Brooklyn duo’s singular sound, and one that sees them continuing to hone those attributes that lend them such a unique voice – and a special space – in the greater indie rock space.” – Atwood Magazine

“A captivating blend of romanticism and introspection” – Luna Collective

“Blissful orchestral pop with Daisy the Great’s signature head-swimmy harmonies and just enough of an edge kicking in to hit home the supervision of joy.” – Spinning Platters

“Highly alluring” – glamglare
