Today, multi-platinum selling Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductees, The O’Jays (Eddie Levert Sr., Walter Williams Sr. and Eric Nolan Grant), officially released new song, “I Got You” across all streaming platforms. The feel good track is the next song off the group’s forthcoming final studio album, The Last Word, their first album in almost 20 years set for release April 19, 2019.
“I Got You” was written by Michael Blume and Daniel Edinberg and produced by soul music legend Betty Wright as well as Steve Greenberg, Mike Mangini, and Sam Hollander.
As noted by RollingStone who premiered the track “The O’Jays rekindle the spirit — and the sumptuous sound — of Philadelphia soul in the Seventies.”
The track offers up a message of love during a time that often feels filled with hate. “Even if the sky begins to fall and even if they try to build that wall, even if the bombs go off and the world is set on fire, I got your back…I can imagine a future where there is no hate. Forget what they say. You have always been great. I’ll see you on the battle line, I got your back and I know you got mine,” sing The O’Jays.
“It’s an extraordinary statement,” said Walter Williams Sr. “It’s exactly what one would want to hear – it goes a long way.”
“In true O’Jays inspirational fashion, “I Got You” offers positivity and solidarity as a means of getting us through this difficult historical moment,” said S-Curve Records President and the song’s co-producer Steve Greenberg.
